Go Kart Racing at ‘The Motordrome’

Go kart racing at The Motordrome, located in Christchurch, offers go-kart racing enthusiasts the opportunity to race in a high powered go kart on a 350m banked, sealed oval track in a Rimo kart direct from the Michael Schumacher venue in Kerpen, Germany. The go karts are capable of reaching speeds of around 65kph on the track’s long straights. This is 30 kmh faster than the normal racing speeds experienced on other New Zealand OSH approved go karting tracks.

Please note that drivers must be 14 years and over

Bookings

For a guaranteed place on the starting grid we advise you to give The Motordrome a call to make a booking.  However, if you are passing and feel the need to drive one of our go karts, please feel free to drop in.  The Motordrome will certainly do its best to accommodate your racing needs.

Race Formats

Simply put, when you come to race you purchase a race package or format. The available formats are listed here. For Individual Racing, all our race formats include warm-ups and 10 lap sprints. For first timers the 8/10 or 10/10 is the format most drivers opt for with the ‘speedway sprint’ a firm favourite with the more competitive racers. Drivers will experience rolling, side by side starts from the painted grid positions on the race track, just like the real thing!

We refer to Drift and Drive a few times, so for those of you who don’t know what it is, here’s a brief explanation and a link to a few photos showing drivers hanging their tails out. We built a short detour that leaves the main track just before the starting grid, and rejoins it just past. We spray this part of the track with water, which allows you to do a controlled slide or “drift”. See some pictures here.

If you wish to race later than 6pm make sure you book your group in for some twilight racing. After racing concludes light up the BBQ and partake in a few cool drinks. (Supplied by you, cooled by us.)
